I very much dislike steam. I use it, and I own several games on it. The concept of it is sick though. Not many people think about it because as they say... 'Ignorance is Bliss'
Steam promotes the concept that at any time they can discontinue services that you use if they want. They reserve the right to 'ban you' persay from steam and remove all your games. The concept of it is that to an extent they control what you have. I can understand why some people buy digitally, because obviously it saves time and shipping costs. The thing is though if given the choice I will buy outside of steam because why take the chance?
Reading the fine-print in steams Terms of condition you will find that you don't physically own any of the games in your steam library. It really sucks, to say the least. Doesn't change the fact many people will go on loving it, and I'll go on using it when I have no other choices. It's nice that they frequently have huge sales too.
Your opinion is valid, but this is what is happening, i bet colsoles will do de same deliver digitally cause there is infinite shelf space and no oceans on the internet.
And its true the games you have on Steam, you don't own them, you are just a Subscriber, but there is no way Steam would go under not in its current state, cause it is a massive Profit for Valve thats way they can get away with releasing a game free of charge like Dota 2 and some future stuff.
Its really rare that you get your whole account banned, you have to do a really bad thing to get there, other wise you just get Vac Banned for cheating in games or Community Ban which is time based mostly but it can be permanent it all depends on your behavior.
I'm not defending Steam, but i like Digital Content/Games/Movies cause its comfy for me and its my personal choice. And if you fear stuff like Ban And not Owning what you paid for and still want to get comfy Digital there is always DRM Free sites which is great i might add
